About Mary
I grew up in a beautiful small valley (Vallmeyer, IL) that was surrounded by bluffs and the Mississippi River. My formal education is from Southern Illinois University where I received B.S. degrees in University Studies and Nursing. In 1987 I moved to Eugene, Oregon. It has been over the last 20+ years that I have gained knowledge and experience working with all age groups in many nursing capacities.
It seems that I have always been pulled toward the psychological/social parts of healing. Because of this fascination, my nursing career has taken a natural progression over the years starting out in acute medicine and moving on to areas of drug and alcohol rehab, home health and psychiatric nursing. I have also acquired knowledge about energy and metaphysical concepts and I have been trained in the Krieger-Kunz method of Therapeutic Touch.
It is the accumulation of this background that made coaching the next step for me. It was in 1999, after my daughter was born, that I was introduced to coaching. Even though most people I talked to had no idea what coaching was - I felt I was being called to it. It seems it was a part of me that I had been waiting for all my life to actualize. My life came together as I studied coaching and hired my own coach. I graduated from Coach U (an ICF-accredited training program) in October 2004 and now have a private practice. I provide individual coaching and I also facilitate groups at Healing Spirit Body Therapies. In addition to coaching, I remain an employee for Peacehealth and I teach in the Clinical Education and Leadership Development Department.
I am happily married to Ken and have a teenage step-daughter, Sydney and a 7 year-old daughter Lia. Our newest family member is Lia’s poodle pup, Winnie. My greatest joy is being a wife and Mom. The things I love are the outdoors, hiking, biking, being creative, playing guitar, music, dance, humor and of course, connecting with others.
